British and Irish Movie Reviews
Reviews of great (and not so great) films from Britain and Ireland.Top 5 British Movies
Local Hero (1983) Bill Forsyth's finest work of all, this is a perfect film. It might even give you an urge for a wee dram of whisky. 10/10
Bodysong (2002) A kaleidoscopic succession of images that will have you laughing, gasping, shuddering and gaping, but most of all reflecting on the fundamental questions of human existence - plus a score by Johnny 'Radiohead' Greenwood that sets just the right tone of majesty, drama and awe. 10/10
A Fish Called Wanda (1988) Brilliant cast, brilliant script, brilliant direction. Just brilliant. 9/10
Gregory's Girl (1981) Coming-of-age has never been better captured by film nor simultaneously made so funny and entertaining. A triumph from start to finish. 9/10
A Clockwork Orange (1971) One of Kubrick's greatest masterpieces and a definitive film of its age. Has as much impact as a baseball bat to the head, but is much more enjoyable. 9/10
