I wonder if they would deem all that what many critiqued as being unnecessary explicit as still so. Maybe some would say now, Ok, Miike had a point there. He was just a bit early maybe.

Yes, that is exactly what I thought now for years since I saw Visitor Q. I have it in the highest regard for this. I find it absolutely amazing how Miike lets you out of this bombardment of the worst with this scene of pure familial bliss (can’t say it better then you did). But I can totally understand also many that are not able to make it to the stuff from before this.

Actually I think this bliss would not be possible without the contrast from before. And so bizarre. But still with a heartfelt message under it. The epitome of weird I ever saw.
