An animated coming of age tale of a young Iranian girl – doesn’t sound all that? Give it a try, it’s awesome.
Animated
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
Inoffensive fun for the kids with everyone tagging along from the first two installments but with enough new stuff to keep the kids, and any adults who might be partially paying attention, entertained.
Princess Mononoke
Princess Mononoke is accessible anime close to its best, A multi-layered, interesting storyline and a measured mix of action, plot and the weird spiritual stuff make it a winner.
Waltz with Bashir
Ari Folman has definitely created one of the best, most harrowing and memorable ever movies about war. The decision to use a mixture of animation styles was an inspiration and sets it aside from the rest.
Puss in Boots
A surprisingly decent, if not consistently funny, spin off from the Shrek series. Definitely better than expected, mostly thanks to a short and sweet runtime and great voiceover cast. Probably a success because Mike Myers is nowhere near it.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
The uncanny valley effect strikes again as a largely good film is ruined by freaky animation that’s more unnerving than any horror.
