Sometimes it is only through being constrained that an artist can truly be free. Jørgen Leth's perfection as a director is revealed and reaffirmed by Lars von Trier's five diabolical attempts to introduce flaws to his work, in a film which is thought-provoking, enigmatic, humane and warmly funny.
Reviews
The Long Good Friday
Engrossing and influential, this laid the groundwork for every British gangster-flick that followed. Where would Guy Ritchie be without stuff like this?
Camp
Dont expect to be giving this ill-conceived musical a standing ovation any time soon.
The Good Girl
A well-acted but equally pointless and pessimistic production.
Finding North
A surprisingly warm and at times funny tale of two unusual yet believable friends. Nice to watch.
Swimming Pool
While possibly not for everyone, 'Swimming Pool' is superbly acted, and also perfectly constructed, with even the most casually offhand details or remarks coming to seem important in retrospect. A deeply intelligent film that somehow manages never to seem so.
