Don’t be put off by the synopsis. A film about perfume and sniffing really can be a dark, intriguing thriller.
European
Hunger
Fassbender is excellent and this real life story is adapted with maturity and intelligence by Steve McQueen. An excellent debut feature about a difficult time in British and Irish history.
The Elephant Man
A remarkable true story brought to life in the most original and fascinating way by David Lynch.
Nosferatu the Vampyre
Possibly the best adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Excellent performances, a haunting atmosphere and a unique take on the famous novel from Werner Herzog is just enough to give it the edge.
Midnight in Paris
A unique romance from Woody Allen that’s fairly entertaining but slightly muted. If only he didn’t make it look so much like he wants to have sexual relations with the city of Paris.
Taken
I was pretty taken aback by how poor this monotonous thriller is. Best used as a way to scare your kids into not travelling and staying at home.
