A visual and action packed triumph that will delight those who get aroused by swords and Samurais. It’s well paced and entertaining however some people (me) may just find the epic final battle scene a little repetitious and boring.
War
Lawrence of Arabia
David Lean’s based-on-a-true-story epic oozes star power and quality on a scale rarely seen before or since.
Jarhead
An introspective and mature study of the monotony of war that’s the exact opposite of an all-action trailer that lied to too many people. It’s a different kind of war film that’s definitely worth a look.
The Counterfeiters
The Counterfeiters is a different kind of Holocaust movie – a more personalised tale concentrating on more of a thriller aspect without the sweeping history lesson of its vaunted Hollywood contemporaries. Nevertheless, Stefan Ruzowitzky still gives you enough open-ended moral questions to make you think and entertains along the way.
Lidice
A haunting tale of ordinary lives and genocide in Czechoslovakia during World War Two that is well told with great acting, and excellent cinematography and a musical score that complement each other perfectly.
Rescue Dawn
Christian Bale and Werner Herzog is a match made in heaven in this prisoner of war film with a heart. Rescue Dawn is a real testament to the power of the human spirit and, for once, I actually mean that.
