The Cronenberg-Mortensen partnership gels to great effect in this intelligent tale of the Russian Mafia and sex trafficking in the UK. Better than A History of Violence, I’d say.
Action
Immortals
A perfectly watchable swords and sandals gorefest. Nothing more.
Seven Samurai
Arguably Akira Kurosawa’s best work has it all – epic action, a simple, measured plot and one cool hero. Anyone who calls himself a man will want to be a Samurai after watching this.
Tower Heist
A largely forgettable crime caper that thankfully has enough plot to hang the jokes on. The best thing Rattner and Murphy have made for a long time but that’s not much of a compliment.
The Boondock Saints
The ridiculous and over-the-top nature of two Irish lads living the American wet dream is both the making of and the downfall of The Boondock Saints. Definitely one for the love-it or hate-it category.
Shane
A solid likeable Western full of memorable scenes, characters and dialogue. Oh, and the most annoying child you could imagine.
