Adventure

The Lion King

March 11, 2003 by Gary Panton

Regardless of Disney’s reasons for choosing to release this now, it’s a fantastic example of just how good the pre-Pixar generation toons could be. A real “mane” attraction (arf!).

The Italian Job

February 9, 2003 by Movie Gazette

A workmanlike heist flick with some funny lines and some good (if brief) chases, but it is ultimately hampered by comparing itself to the original, better 'The Italian Job'. Probably the best way to enjoy this film is to ignore its title, and to think of it as an entirely different film with occasional sequences that merely pay homage to Michael Caine's cockney masterpiece.

Jurassic Park

Star Trek: Nemesis

February 5, 2003 by Movie Gazette

Dismal. It appears the even numbered Star Trek Magic failed on this occasion. There are faster and better movies to see at the moment than this ill-created sci-fi flick. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

February 5, 2003 by Movie Gazette

Breathtaking. Gorgeous locations, good (if not great) dialogue and some fantastic battle scenes. As always Gandalf (McKellan) is outstanding, as are the performances generally enhanced from the first movie. The ents don’t fail to disappoint, although I would have liked to have seen a lot more time devoted to them.

Treasure Planet

February 5, 2003 by Gary Panton

The quality of the animation never fails to impress, but can’t cover up for the fact that this is one of the blandest cartoon tales ever to come out of the Disney studios. Extremely disappointing.
