40 days and 40 nights
While Hartnett is a good male lead, he doesn't quite pull it off (no pun intended) successfully in this quirky movie about sex. It's not over funny and certainly nothing new. Complete with hugely predictable 'does he get the girl?' ending and over the top characters – as a romantic comedy, it succeeds at entertaining, if only barely.

A slow film in which the main character's spiritual journey rarely seems to make much progress. A must for Costner fans, of course, but unlikely to make much impact on anyone else.
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
A tale of a childhood friendship which is stronger than most. Told with good humour and a deep understanding of the motivations of the characters.
