Funny Games U.S.

An exact replica (in English) of the original, this could’ve been a superior psychological thriller—and it STILL could’ve made its point—but instead, it comes off as patronizing and snobby.

Watchmen

The director of 300 has once again taken a classic graphic novel and brought it to the big screen with obvious affection, and while that sometimes makes this a little too literal of an adaptation, it’s still full of truly special effects and “super” performances.

Let the Right One In

One of the best horror films of the year, Let the Right One In is all at once scary, haunting, and a pretty sweet love story to boot.

Valkyrie

Sure, you know what didn’t happen, but Valkyrie is still surprisingly suspenseful, boasts some great acting, and still manages to provide an interesting history lesson.

The Unborn

There’s really no good reason for this film to have been made, and even with a couple of mild screams, there’s also no really good reason to see it.

Milk

Milk is, undoubtedly a must-see if you’re looking for a lesson in the gay rights movement, but more importantly, it’s a beautifully crafted film about a man we should know more about.

Frozen River

Hopefully it will get a post-Oscar boost, because this gritty tale of a woman driven to great lengths to provide for her family deserves to be seen.

In Bruges

One of the best films of the year that a lot of people still haven’t seen, this tale of two hit men trying to be tourists is a dark comedy of the darkest variety.

Saw V

Probably the weakest of the series so far, Saw V will still satisfy the series’ fans and shows promise with writers who should find their footing by the time VI rolls around.

Happy-Go-Lucky

It’s like punching a puppy for me to say this, but Poppy’s more irritating than happy, and I found myself wishing for just a little bit more angst.
