Rescue Dawn

Christian Bale and Werner Herzog is a match made in heaven in this prisoner of war film with a heart. Rescue Dawn is a real testament to the power of the human spirit and, for once, I actually mean that.

The Social Network

John Guzdek likes this.

The Departed

For once it’s a remake of an excellent international offering that seems worth it thanks to Scorsese doing what he does best and a wonderful ensemble cast.

Battle: Los Angeles

A war film with aliens that looks good but shows a total lack of intelligence. To borrow an expression: you can’t polish a turd.

Tell No One

Ignore the title and tell everyone about this latest engrossing thriller from ze French.

Ironclad

A Medieval take on The Expendables that nearly exceeds it’s relatively modest budget. Fun for a while but gets monotonous and dreary as it crawls to a climax.

East Is East

This Beast from the East is quality culture clash comedy that treads the fine line between comedy and social commentary in the most amusing and inoffensive way. Deserves it’s massive popularity.

West Is West

Not as good as East is East as it misses a bit of the hard-hitting punch of it’s predecessor but it’s still got enough laughs to make it worth a watch.

The Son's Room

Undoubtedly, a technically excellent and superbly acted tale of grief but, as a movie to sit down and enjoy, it’s probably more depressing than sitting in your garage, crying tears of mascara whilst the air around you fills up with petrol fumes and the warblings of a Celine Dion powerballad.

Paul

If you can get past the Marmite casting of Seth Rogen as Paul the alien you will find this comedy likeable and consistently funny if not a little dumbed down.
