Duplicity

More character-driven spy romantic comedy than espionage movie, this film harkens back to the classic days of the “star” film, and for the witty back and forth alone, this is better than you may have heard.

Whiteout

Whiteout could’ve been a taut, suspenseful crime thriller, but instead, it’s a lot of bad dialogue and dull mystery that leads up to a lackluster climax — but the snow is pretty.

Adventureland

Not the film it was advertised to be, “Adventureland” is actually a very sweet movie with people you’ll like that is the antidote to just about every raunchy teen sex comedy ever.

Surrogates

Not the film it could’ve been, Surrogates brings some intriguing ideas and performances, but is ultimately a bit too convoluted and messy when it tries to be a hybrid of too many genres.

Sorority Row

Nobody expected greatness, I’m pretty sure, but Sorority Row could’ve at least put some effort into being entertaining enough to be worthy of paying matinee prices for.

People will despise this movie for its quirky dialogue and its over-exposed lead, but given a chance, Jennifer’s Body is entertaining, a little bit different, and deserves better than it’s gotten, despite some obvious flaws.

District 9

A film that transcends in genre, District 9 is an instant classic that gives sci-fi the boost of credibility it’s deserved for a long time.

Wanted

Better than I expected, and better than it seems at first, give Wanted a chance and you’ll find a great looking, somewhat entertaining action film with possibilities.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Nowhere near as good as the first but still a fun time, this Pirates installment keeps the story moving and gives us all the stuff we want and expect, even if it’s not as new as it used to be.

Antichrist

Not for the faint of heart, Antichrist isn’t horror, and it’s a lot to take in, but Dafoe and especially Gainsbourg give heart-wrenching performances that deserve to be seen, if you can handle it.
