Ripley's Game

A disappointing thriller that tries to hard too be atmospheric in the hope of covering up a largely hole-filled and one-dimensional plot.

Thirteen Days

This is an outstanding historic political thriller that jangles the nerves, made all the more powerful because of the significance of the true events on which it is based.

Clockstoppers

This film is an above-average family adventure that will certainly amuse kids but lacks depth and substance.

Mimic 2

This is a competently-made sci-fi horror flick, but it lacks surprises and as a result doesn’t always manage to build genuine tension.

Birthday Girl

Both funny and thrilling, this film provides plenty of entertainment even if one isn’t really surprised how it turns out. A fine addition to the stable of modern quirky British comedies.

Die Another Day

A fine addition to the Bond film collection, with the usual collection of gadgets, bad guys, chases and plenty of action.

Urban Ghost Story

This is a decent but not outstanding low-budget British supernatural thriller that makes a good start but fails to really capitalise on it.

3000 Miles to Graceland

This is an effective stylish actioner with some good shootouts, but it would need to make better use of some of its supporting characters to be really outstanding.

The Others

Only the surprisingly good ending saves this tiresome, overly-atmospheric, non-event from receiving an even lower rating.

The Matrix: Reloaded

While you can’t help but be impressed by the computer-aided stunts and FX, the fact remains that this sequel isn’t fit to clean the original movie’s boots. A major disappointment.
